Visit the Refuge site for IMPORTANT information you need to know before you go  Refuge Site

  • Steve Thompson Wildlife Drive (formerly, Bayside Drive) is now open to hiking and biking only.
  • Buena Vista Road is open. THE SPEED LIMIT IS 25 MPH!
  • Please do not drive or park on the dedicated bicycle lane.
  • Refuge walking and biking trails are open 7 days a week, sunrise to sunset.
  • Cell service is inconsistent and on-site staff are limited.
  •  Due to staffing shortages, these days and times may be subject to change; we apologize for the inconvenience and thank you for your understanding.

Know before you go

It is extremely important that visitors know your limit and plan for the weather. It's hot and humid most of the year, be aware of the signs of heat exhaustion and dress accordingly.

These items are always recommended:

  • Hat or cap & sunglasses
  • Comfortable closed toe shoes
  • Wear proper clothing
  • Have plenty of water & snacks
  • Sunscreen & Insect repellant
Always observe wildlife from a safe distance.
