Friends of Laguna Atascosa NWR RV-Volunteer Position Description

Background:

The Friends of Laguna Atascosa National Wildlife Refuge (FLANWR) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. Our mission is to educate the public regarding the flora, fauna, and natural environment of Laguna Atascosa National Wildlife Refuge with an emphasis on conservation and environmental awareness through functions and events. Additionally, FLANWR promotes public support for the Laguna Atascosa National Wildlife Refuge by organizing and encouraging volunteer service and soliciting public donations to support and enhance ongoing conservation programs on the Refuge. The operation of the Friends Nature Store helps promote the Laguna Atascosa National Wildlife Refuge and fundraise for FLANWR through the sale of items that are of educational value, illustrate the purpose of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, and reinforce the mission and goals of the U.S Fish and Wildlife Service. This is a seasonal volunteer position. In return for services, volunteers will receive a slab, full hookups, WIFI, and access to the Hunt Station that has a washer and dryer, two full bathrooms, and a full kitchen.

Duties:

This position will include working for the Friends of Laguna Atascosa National Wildlife Refuge for a three-day, 8-hour shift. Duties may include:

• Use of Square register to check out customers at Nature Store
• Money management
• Restocking
• Light cleaning
• Filing
• Natural resource interpretation
• Pollinator garden maintenance
• Equipment maintenance
• Outreach events on and off-site. These may include art events, youth events, guided walks, or other events.
